He put his headphones on and pretended not to hear the 'Yo, GL, I need your help figuring out these accounts man. You got a knack for numbers, respect!' from his colleague Chandler.
As Chandler towered in Gahussou's cubicle, Gahussou squeezed his eyes shut to enjoy the melodic country song by Darius Rucker. Other days, he would go for Charlie Pride but today he just reserved his attention for Don’t think I don’t think about it.
Gahussou could still hear Melanie, his ex's sharp and measured words that etched a painful stamp on his heart and emotions. He would have a raki from his mother's homeland at that moment if he could since he didn't care much for whiskey. His African naturalized American father had married an Asian woman whom he met on the Asian side of Turkey during a touristic vacation.
Since he acted like he hadn't heard Chandler all this while, his colleague repeated himself. "GL, I need help with the general ledger of one my locations please. I can't seem to balance it." Chandler scratched his head and displayed a goofy yellow smile.
At those words, Gahussou snatched the headphones from his ears and threw them on his desk. He had had enough! Then, he swiftly got up from his chair almost making his colleague lose his balance. Dangerously looking Chandler straight in eyes, he exclaimed with a false sense of calm in his voice, "You are an 'accountant' too. Figure it out. I have a lot on my plate." Satisfied that he wouldn't allow himself to do the work of others who got paid more than him for qualifications they presumably earned in college, he walked out of the office head high. A sense of defiance washed over him as he felt the piercing and surprised looks of the office members on him.
They can find a new GL, he thought. Gahussou Ledger was tired of being a General Ledger to them all! For all he cared, they could continue delaying in investing in a better accounting system like PeopleSoft. They can query another GL for their trial balances from now on! I'm done! Another accounting firm will appreciate my talents because I'm taking them to the highest bidder!
